Grandmother always told us we had lost our connection to spirit and nature. She was right. By the time I met her I was totally lost. Even my words weren’t coming out right I had so lost the connection to myself. I had no idea who I was and my connection to spirit was broken. I prayed constantly to find balance within myself so when my prayers began to be answered I questioned the source that sent me the help I needed. I couldn’t identify that it was help at all. That’s how lost I was.

She broke down our defenses first. I imagine going through that was a lot like what soldiers go through in basic training. Break down what we think we are and what we think we know, which, for me at the time was inaccurate and corrupt. Who was I? Why was I here? Where was I going? I wasn’t worth it. What exactly was “it?” I really had forgotten who I was.

So I began meditating intensely and reconnecting to my source through silence and stillness. Eventually, distractions were no longer needed. It was important that I just be in the silence of myself. I still go for long periods without any kind of distractions such as tv, radio, phone. I never listen to the NEWS. News of what? Whatever the powers that be decide to bombard us with to keep us distracted. What can we actually do in another’s universe? Unless we choose to step into their universe – absolutely nothing. I try to stay focused and make my life worth living and calm, peaceful and loving. Those around me don’t actually mind living in my universe so something’s working. If something is brought to my door I deal with it in the best way I know how and go right on living.

Nature. I listen to the natural world and enjoy the sights and sounds of the critters who show up. One day, not long ago I actually had a male ring-necked pheasant in my yard. Someone said they were on the verge of extinction. So I looked up what the pheasant represented and it said,

“Although the female pheasant is rather plain looking, the males of this species have eye-popping color to their look and pizzazz to their attitudes. They are flashy creatures who love to flaunt themselves to the ladies – nature made them perfect for this. The body of a pheasant animal totem shows us that nature is endlessly creative and beautiful, as long as we take the time to look. In addition to creativity and male flamboyance, pheasant spiritual guides represent passion, sexuality, and attraction. They have extremely active sexual libidos and know how to utilize their gifts to get what they want.”
Well, alrighty then! What can I say? At the time I wasn’t feeling all that creative, or beautiful. I guess I was going to be more creative, passionate and attractive. Within a short time I noticed I was being more creative and I actually was being noticed by the opposite sex. Not that I was trying. I’m shorter and rounder than I’ve ever been! But that didn’t seem to matter much to those who were noticing.

Nature speaks. That’s the lesson. Do we take the time to notice or do we just say, “Oh LOOK! There’s a pheasant!” And think nothing about the fact that pheasants don’t often come to the city. Or that they may be on the endangered list.

On another note. There was a celebration in southern Ohio that I wanted to attend. I desperately wanted to be there and asked Creator to hold up starting til I got there. The sun was setting and I knew they’d start without me if it got too low. The sun HAD to be up for the celebration. I drove like a maniac to get there. I put it out to all of creation to hold on and that I would be there.

I kept driving and finally made my destination. When I got there all were waiting for me and I was able to take part in the festivities. The master of ceremony looked at me and said, “The sun waited for you to come. It hasn’t moved from where it is in an hour! It literally hung where it’s at in the sky until you got here.” I replied that I had asked it to not go down any further because I really wanted to be here to be a part of this. He replied that it heard me and waited.

All of nature listens to us and hears us speak. It honors our requests. We are that powerful. We just have to remember.
